SAN DIEGO (AP) — Investigators have identified a juvenile as a suspect for intentionally starting a wildfire that destroyed dozens of homes near San Diego in May.
The San Diego County Sheriff's Department said Wednesday that it would not release the suspect's identify and did not indicate if anyone was in custody. It says the suspect has not been linked to any other fires that ripped through Southern California at the time.
The suspect is believed to have started the Cocos fire in the northern San Diego suburb of San Marcos. The fire was the most destructive of the May fires in terms of property damage, claiming 36 houses and one business.
The Sheriff's Department says investigators sifted through many tips and photos provided by the public.
