AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — President Barack Obama says congressional Republicans have voted down "every serious" idea for helping the middle class this year.

Obama says that contention is "not a partisan statement — it's a statement of fact." He says Democrats are the party seekng to raise the minimum wage, spend more on infrastructure and make college more affordable.

Obama is speaking at a campaign-syle rally in Austin at the close of a three-day trip to Colorado and Texas. He held a private fundraiser earlier Thursday and also had lunch with a local college student who wrote him a letter about her family's economic troubles.
